How to use Sentinel HD55 Dehumidifier

If you want to optimize the efficiency of the sentinel HD 55 Dehumidifier, you need to do the following:

· Place the dehumidifier on a dry level surface. Avoid putting it on a vapor barrier such as a damp basement.
· Consult the manual when installing the unit
· When you want to switch the unit on or off, make use of the remote control.
· Avoid using the power switch to switch it off.
· Use the arrow keys to set your desired humidity level. Choose anything between 50- 55%.
· Even after the unit has been switched off via the remote control, ensure that you allow the fan to continue running until it stops. It helps to remove the dissipated heat.
· The unit drains itself automatically as it operates. However, if you are planning to keep it in-store, you must give an allowance of at least 10 minutes so that it can defrost. You should lean the drain a little bit to ensure that the unit drains completely.

When you want to store the unit, the following must be observed.

· Turn off the dehumidifier and allow it to dry
· The power code should be wrapped and secured
· The filter mesh should be protected by covering it
· Ensure the unit is stored in a clean dry place

Where It Can Be Used Application

The unit finds a lot of applications in warehouses, basement, crawl spaces, and even offices. It is also used in shops, storage areas, apartments, and factories. Other places where the unit is likely to be used are in bars and restaurants and museums. It is also widely used in computer rooms to reduce dampness or dust. Sentinel HD 55 is an energy-efficient product that is, CE, ETL.

It is a whole-house dehumidifier that can be relied on to solve damage to any building. If a building suffers from dampness, Sentinel HD55 can be deployed to provide a solution to the humidity problem. The dehumidifier comes with a filter that makes installing it much easier.  The fact that it features optional duct mounting flanges reduces the time it takes to have it installed.

How the Unit Operates

You will select the relative humidity you want. It uses the integral humidistat to monitor the space and conditions. When the humidity level rises beyond the set levels, the unit energizes. When this happens, it draws air across the evaporator coils. Typically, the coils will be cooler than the dew point of the air. Moisture will then condense out of the air.  The remaining air will then be reheated and distributed into the condenser coil. It will then be redistributed in the house.

Installing The Unit

Ensure that you use vapor barriers to seal off the areas that you want to control its humidity levels. If it is the crawl spaces, check and ensure that all the vents are sealed.

Also, ensure that the environment in which you want to install the dehumidifier is not corrosive. Notice that we have some liquid barriers that dry through solvent evaporation. So it is your mandate to ensure that the barrier is dry and that the area is sealed.

Before using the dehumidifier, check and ensure that it is placed on a level surface.  Avoid placing it to a vapor barrier.

Set the desired humidity level using the up and down button.  Choose the most comfortable level for you. It should range from 36-90%. Once you set your point, the machine will stop dehumidifying as long as the setpoint has been reached. When indoor humidity rises above the set level, the machine automatically starts operating.

You can choose to set the machine into continuous mode. This can be done by using the up and down arrow. Check and ensure you see the continuous button illuminate green. It indicates that the unit has been switched to a continuous mode. You will see CO on the display screen.

Cleaning the unit

To optimize the use of the dehumidifier, it is necessary that you clean its body.  You need is a soft piece of cloth to do this. Soak it in water without soap or solvent and use it to wipe the dehumidifier. Also, you may unplug and clean the filter by washing it with soap-less water. Alternatively, you may choose to vacuum the unit.  Just try to ensure that it dries before reinstalling it.  Notice that the coil must also be cleaned once in a year. You may use an approved coil cleaner to do this job.

Precautions

· Before powering the sentinel dehumidifier, ensure that it is connected using a grounded electrical connection.
· When you choose to have the unit repaired or maintained, ensure that you get a competent technician.
· If you choose to move the dehumidifier to another place, unplug it from the power supply.
· If the unit gets flooded with water, it is recommended that you open it so that it can dry before attempting to reconnect it.
· Don't position the discharge and the inlet onto the wall. Ensure that the inlet has a 12'' space clearance while the discharge should have a 36'' clearance.
· If the unit is close to a wall, ensure that the inlet is parallel to the wall while the discharge should face away from the wall.
· If you choose to clean the unit, ensure that it is unplugged from the power source.
· Don't use the machine as a support when you want to reach items that are high.

Versatile
By 'Alice', Reviewed on July 01, 2022
I am running an Alorair Sentinel HD55 dehumidifier unducted in my finished basement. The unit is solidly built, efficient, effective, and relatively quiet. Set at 48% relative humidity, it operates reliably with six-point hysteresis, turning on at 51% and turning off at 45%. The remote controller, purchased separately and located in still air about four feet from the HD55, is giving longer and more efficient duty cycles than I was getting with the onboard humidistat. With the HD55 level and its filter clean, I measure 65db at three feet. The sound is almost entirely that of rushing air. The compressor is audible, but at a significantly lower and less grating frequency than those of dehumidifiers from Frigidaire and Tosot that I tried earlier this year and found intolerable. Overall, I find the Alorair HD55 to be of higher quality, and to offer greater versatility than any other dehumidifier I have used.
Excellent!
By 'Michaelia', Reviewed on December 13, 2021
So far, the HD55 is doing an excellent job in conjunction with a Little Giant condensate pump to lift the discharge to an overhead pipe. The HD55 is quieter than my Frigidaire and does not freeze up (thanks to the HDV defrosting system), and I particularly like the easy access and disassemble modular all-metal construction. It is effortless to get at all the components if I need to repair them. The HD55 is expensive compared to most homeowner-priced units. Still, a bargain when you consider the cheaper plastic ones break down with regularity can be a real pain to take apart, and the cost of replacement parts makes them almost a waste of time to try and fix. I see lots of those in the scrap pile at our local town dump.
Happy with this purchase!

I set it up, turned it on, and it worked. The crawlspace humidity is down in the 40s today. When I installed it, we had droplets of water collecting on the duct work, and the insulation on the branch ductwork was soaked in some areas. There were puddles on the plastic covering the floor of the crawl space. Humidity was in the 80 percent relative humidity range at the start. I am happy.
Satisfied with it!

I bought this dehumidifier one month ago, and I am satisfied with it! 1. Fan switches off when desired humidity 2. It Looks and feels very solid 3. Compact - helps when you are putting it in crawl space 4. I have used several Brands of dehumidifiers, and they have lasted 2-3 years. I have been using it in my basement and crawl space. For some reason, when I have put this dehumidifier, the smell is much less than what I had previously, even though I set it at the same humidity level. There is a noticeable difference.
Works well!
By 'Alice Wilson', Reviewed on September 16, 2021
It was installed in a crawl space 30 ft by 30 ft by 4 ft tall. Humidity was at 95% and causing lots of sweating on pipes and started growing mold. It encapsulated crawl space by sealing off vents and laying nine mil plastic across the floor and walls. It has installed a dehumidifier with condensate line draining into septic line with a P trap. Within moments, it started draining considerable amounts of water into a drain line. Humidity levels dropped consistently over the next three days, stabilizing at the 50% set point. It’s only been running a week, and it is relatively quiet. I can’t hear it upstairs, and the remote unit makes it handy to monitor without crawling into crawl space. It did what it was supposed to do, humidity problem solved.
Efficient and quiet

I ran an Alorair Sentinel HD55 dehumidifier without pipes in my finished basement. The device is robust, efficient, effective and quiet. With a relative humidity of 48%, it runs reliably with a six-point hysteresis, turning on at 51% and turning off at 45%. The separately purchased remote control is located in still air about four feet away from the HD55, and it has a longer and more efficient duty cycle than the onboard hygrostat.
SAVING

This very good machine runs in my basement. It has a small sound and is very quiet. At the same time, it has a high dehumidification efficiency and does not consume too much electricity. It is a very power-saving equipment.
Good job!

The AlorAir Sentinel HD55 is much more powerful than the dehumidifiers I buy in the local hardware store before, but it's not designed for huge areas either. That makes it perfect for my damp basement (up to 1,300 sq. ft.). It removes nearly seven gallons (55 pints) every day and can be hooked up to a drainage hose for continuous 24-hour operation. It comes with a two-meter drainage hose, but you can buy a longer one if necessary. All Alorair Professional Dehumidifiers come with a remote control system. It lets you set the desired humidity, so the machine turns itself on and off only when it needs.
Love it!
By 'Ivy Lopez', Reviewed on August 27, 2021
I installed it on Sunday evening in a crawl space (about 1400 sq ft) at 99% humidity at 76 degrees. By Monday morning, the humidity sensor I put in said 55% at 77 degrees. The unit itself told 60%. This thing has been trucking along, and the drain is constantly running, so I'm happy for now. We will see how it is over the long term. Smell and miserable humidity is basically gone on crawl space over a single weekend. By the way, If you don't get the remote, I would recommend a remote humidity sensor just to keep an eye on humidity percent. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this dehumidifier, and it was a good investment.

Easy to operate and effective! We use this dehumidifier (in our restoration business) along with many others from Alorair and love them. They work well, the quality is good, and they are surprisingly quiet. Great for hard to get to places due to compact size and lightweight, but powerful like a bigger unit.Good job!

Yes, it can be used in the garage. You can leave it in the garage with something well covered for storage. Make sure no dust and rusting.
I have about a 1200sq ft basement with a finished drop ceiling. Will this dehumidify the area below the drop ceiling mounted in the ceiling, or do I need ducts?

Pippa on October 05, 2021

Answered by Alorair
If it is inside the ceiling, it will not dehumidify the space below it. It needs to be placed in the same room that needs the dehumidification. This unit can only be ducted using the exhaust.
Can this unit be set on a shelf up high and work as it should?
