Sentinel HD55S E1 (temperature/humidity sensor issue)

Back to List

I have a Sentinel HD55S which is showing the E1 error that others on here have mentioned and seems to be a common issue as caused by the humidity sensor.  Attached picture shows the sensor from my unit with the obvious corrosion, which seems to me to be a reasonable guess as to the cause of the issue.

I am looking in to getting a replacement sensor board sent to me so I can swap it out.  My questions are:

1: The circled component on the board is the actual surface mount humidity and temperature sensor module.  Does anyone know if I were to coat the board (with the exception of the single circled component that obviously needs to be exposed to the air) with a silicone based conformal PCB coating if that would extend the life of the module or would it cause other issues?
1a: Alternatively, an ePTFE cover over the vent opening for the sensor?
2: What would be the effects of relocating the module to a different part of the dehumidifer that wasn't directly underneath the evaporation coils and might be more protected against water contact?
