HD55 - How do I remove the fan? Proprietary fastener use on bottom plate?

I have an HD55 under warranty.  The fan is broken and Alorair forwarded me a replacement fan.  Unfortunately, the original fan is attached to the bottom plate using some proprietary (or unrecognizable to me) fastener.  How do I remove the old fan so I can install the new one?

The attached images show the top and bottom of the fastener securing the fan to the bottom plate.
