HD55 Freezes

I have an HD55 and it continually frezes and I have to unlpug it to let it thaw. The intake is a sheet of ice and gets so thick it covers the filter. I have waited for it to cycle and defrost but nothing ever seems to happen. What can I do?

Hi Sean,

Please indicate if the air inlet and outlet are blocked and if the filter is blocked.  Indicate the ambient temperature during operation. If the filter screen is clean and the air inlet and outlet are working smoothly, the high ambient temperature may be caused by refrigerant leakage and freezing.

I purchased an HD55 unit March 2023 (only a few months old). I have it in my basement and set to 39. Has worked great until the last week. It will no longer keep the RH below 48. When I tried to remove the filter it would not move. Found that it is frozen. ICE has not started to form on the outside of the filter, but I can feel the ice.

Why would the auto defrost not prevent this? My basement temp remains 58-63f.
