Icing HD55

Back to List

Ice is appearing on the filter. The filter cannot be removed as the ice is in the coil fins. I've turned off the unit overnight and allowed the ice to melt, cleaned filter and replaced it. Ice reappears about a day later. Turned off the unit overnight, again. The fins feel wet but there does not seem to ba any water in the drain pan. What can I do to prevent re-icing? I thought this unit had defrosting capability.

Hi Victor,
Please specify the ambient temperature during operation. If the temperature exceeds 65℉, it may be a system problem caused by refrigerant leakage.

Ambient Temp is running between 63 and 65.

When checked today the was icing on the outside surface of fins (behind the filter). It did not appear to have gone farther than the surface.

Is it possible that the auto defrost is not operating? The indicator light for defrosting never comes on.

Hi Victor,

Regardless of whether the ambient temperature is stable, this temperature point won't usually freeze. It may be that the detection is inaccurate, and the defrost program won't start. You can first try replacing the humidity sensor. If that doesn't work, the system problem is more likely.

Is the part still under warranty? The unit was purchased May 5, 2022.

Hi Victor,
It's best to try a different humidity sensor in case defrost doesn't start due to inaccurate detection. Otherwise, there is a greater chance that there is a leak. The one-year warranty period has expired. Are you willing to pay a little more? You can also put it in a higher temperature location and try running it to see if it still freezes, which is a more accurate assessment. We tried that 55 and basically freezing occurs at 59 degrees Fahrenheit, so the likelihood of icing is still high at that temperature. The leak cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Latest:

Cleaned sensor by blowing it out with canned air.

Overnight the top 2 inches of the fins have iced.

After another 24 hours no change.

During this time the temperature did not drop below 63.

How much is the sensor, and where would I order one?

Hi Victor,

The sensor can be sent to you, if not, the refrigerant leakage will be handled under warranty. The probability of leakage is higher. Please contact customer service.

Oddly, it seems to be fine now. Took a couple of days where there was just a bit of ice at the top of the coils, and now it's good. Dirt in the sensor, maybe?

Thanks for the help. :)

Hi Victor,

Defrosting may not start due to inaccurate detection. Please keep watching, if it occurs again, you can report relevant pictures, ambient temperature and other information to customer service.
